Susan Kuo

November 4, 1944—June 13, 2022

Susan was born on November 4th, 1944 in Guiyang, Guizhou, China. She was the fourth of five children and the youngest of three girls. With her family, Susan followed her father, Cheng-De, who traveled through dozens of provinces with the Red Cross and National Defense Medical Center before settling in Taiwan in March 1949. They lived in a Japanese-Style residence on Roosevelt Road in Taipei City.

Susan attended Long-An Elementary School and Wen-Shan High School and obtained a degree from Shi Chien School of Home Economics, now known as Shi Chien University.  Susan even co-hosted a TV program for the Educational channel in Taiwan before Martha Stewart ever had her show in the U.S.  After she married Eddie, Susan single-handedly raised two daughters for the first 12 years in Taiwan, while Eddie obtained graduate degrees in U.S. and taught at National Cheng Kung University and R.O.C Military Academy after returning from U.S.. In 1982, the Kuo family emigrated to the United States. Susan continued to manage all household matters and kept everything under control until the day she passed away. She loved her family, her friends, and her local community.  

Susan Kuo Mama had a major positive impact on all the people she encountered during her lifetime.  There were many people touched by her kindness and generosity. Today we celebrate Susan Kuo Mama and she will be greatly missed by us all.

Susan Kuo（楊旭香）於民國三十三年（一九四四年）十一月四日對日抗戰期間出生於貴州省貴陽市，父親為抗日救國華僑，母親是家庭主婦。她在五個兄弟姐妹裡面排行老四，有一個哥哥，兩個姐姐，還有一個弟弟。抗戰勝利後，楊家隨紅十字會與當時軍醫學校（現國防醫學院）搭乘大巴、行經二十幾個省份，舉家遷往上海，直至民國三十八年（一九四九年）再隨國防醫學院搭乘安達貨輪抵達台灣基隆港，楊父為運輸主任。抵台後全家住在羅斯福路的日式住宅。

Susan 先後就讀龍安小學，文山中學，後考上實踐家專（現實踐大學)，畢業於家政學院家政系。並透過文山中學的同學結識了 Eddie。結婚以後 ，Eddie 考取國防公費兩度來美進修碩士和博士，回國後在南部母校成功大學和陸軍官校任教。期間 Susan 在台北獨立照顧兩個女兒。

民國七十一年（一九八二年 ），舉家依親移民至美國北加州，朝夕相處。Susan 勤儉持家，照顧家人無微不至，盡顯賢妻良母風範，一家三代其樂融融。Eddie 和 Susan 在舊金山灣區經營房地產業務，幫助了許多新移民家庭。Susan 同時將物業管理得井井有條，也和無數房東、房客成為親密朋友。Susan 性情溫和、心地善良、待人親切，認識的人都能感受到她的愛心。

Susan 熱愛音樂和合唱藝術。在龍吟合唱團三十九年，是女中音聲部的資深團員，也是合唱團大小事務的熱心人士。

二零二二年六月十三日晚上，Susan 在家裡睡夢中沒有痛苦安詳地離開我們。我們大家的郭媽媽現在可以放心地在另外一個快樂的世界休息，並雲遊四海。 我們思念她慈愛的面容和親切的聲音，並永遠懷念她。
